I went to see Bill Callahan
Pink smoke stacks
mirroring the tired sun.
signals the day is done.
to know the flesh.
To reach the living
we navigate the dead.
The mountains mark my home;
but from here all I see
is the green river valley:
I search low for a mountain top.
I ash along the trail
to mark the way back.
I pray the still wind remains
so to not blow my path away.
My new band Other Jesus, shot by my good friend Sylvana d’Angelo
A Doctor and a Locksmith
I bought a hat right away
because I heard it gets windy where we’re going.
I wanted something to hold on to
in case of the breeze.
But when for some reason you spoke about the sky
(which you promised me was blue beyond the fog)
I briefly turned my head that way,
and I barely noticed the wind
as it blew my hat away.
Did the cover design for Dan’s amazing solo album.
added some verses to one of my favourite songs, Some Velvet Morning…
Some velvet morning when I’m straight
I’m going to open up your gate
and maybe tell you about Phaedra
and how she gave me life,
and how she made it end.
Some velvet morning when I’m straight.
Flowers growing on the hill
Dragonflies and daffodills
Learn from us
Look at us
But do not touch
Phaedra is my name.
Only to dear Phaedra could I lie
For she never once asked me why
As I calmly set fire to everything I held dear
to the flowers on the hill.
Only to dear Phaedra could I lie.
"Falling is the essence of a flower"
She said to me in our final hour.
I watched her pedals fall slowly into the passing breeze
Blowing away from me
Falling is the essence of a flower.
